Conversation with Alma B. Serrato psychologist/ Coping with social status loss
The ambiguity that many women of foreign origin experience upon emigrating to a new country can be twofold. On one hand, women are often successful or have achieved a certain social status in their country of origin; and on the other hand, women of foreign origin often occupy lower rungs of the labor market and within society in the country they move to.
This loss of status coupled with new challenges is our topic for discussion in this session at Kynjaþing.
How do women of foreign origin reconcile the loss of status?
In this online forum for Kynjaþing, we offer the opportunity to discuss the subject with Alma B. Serrato. Alma will share with us her journey and specifically her experience here in Iceland couple with her work as a psychologist working internationally with people coping with the loss of social status.
