The Women’s Story Circle welcomes all women to join us and work on a new art project which will take we will be working on this autumn.
‘The New World Map’ project will be headed by Lilianne van Vorstenbosch, an art teacher who has led the women of the Story Circle through several projects, helping us to leave our mark on the world. With Lilianne’s help, we have already changed the face of Reykjavík (see the art work in the City Library in Tryggvagata) and the face of Iceland in our commissioned work for Kaffitár, called ‘The New Map of Iceland’. This artwork is visible on the coffee packages, cars and cafés of the company as well as in other parts of their brand products.
In both paintings, women from all over the world painted a personal symbol representing themselves, or ties with their country of origin, on a background map of Reykjavík or Iceland. Our new project will concentrate on painting different perspectives on the WORLD we live in. The artwork is meant to enhance the richness of the culturally diverse landscapes we live in – inside and outside the Reykjavik City Library.
You do not have to be an artist to take part, as you will learn a very simple dot painting technique from the start of the project, so you can leave your mark on the world. We are looking forward to introducing the project to you and to hear your ideas.
We encourage all women to come and learn about our new art project and to meet new people.
