Cooperation in the fight against gender based violence

On the 18th of May, W.O.M.E.N. welcomed a sister organisation from Finland, the Daisy Ladies. For that occasion, W.O.M.E.N. organised a mini-conference to introduce them to the different institutions and resources involved in the fight against gender based violence in Iceland.

Our chair, Maru Alemán, made an introduction about the heart of our work: the weekly peer support and amazing group of volunteers taking shifts to support and guide other women of foreign origin.

We then got to hear about the impressive work of our sister organisation from Finland, the Daisy Ladies. First, with a message from their founder, Hülya “Hissu” Kytö, originally from Turkey. The Daisy Ladies are very much engaged in advocacy and support when it comes to violence against women of foreign origin. Our common hope is to increase cooperation for immigrant women in the Nordic countries.

Then several key institutions and resources in Iceland were presented to the Daisy Ladies and the public

And the last words go to the Daisy Ladies: “Individually we are one drop, together we are an ocean” – quote from Ryunosuke Satoro.
