Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, handed over in Kjarvalstaður on Tuesday around 47 millions ISK to Kvennaathvarf (Women’s shelter), Rótin, Menntasjóðs/Mæðrastyrksnefndar, Menningar- og minningarsjóðs kvenna, Sigurhæðir, W.O.M.E.N. Samtök kvenna af erlendum uppruna and Stelpur Rokka.
W.O.M.E.N. received 2.000.000 isk that will be put to good use. Wiktoria Joanna Ginter and Marion Poilvez received the grant on behalf of the association.

W.O.M.E.N. is extremely grateful for this support that came from the Sigríður Melsteð charity Fund which was started in 1914. The wording of the fund’s charter bears the mark of its time: “This charity fund shall be for unmarried, ill-healthed and disadvantaged women, especially those who were raised in good and moral homes and are moral themselves”. The fundamental values of the fund were taken into account and adapted to our time when it came to distribution. More about the fascinating story behind the fund:
