This winter we received a request we are really not accustomed to receiving. Bergþóra Jónsdóttir and Icelandic graphic designer contacted us offering to donate the proceeds form a very special exhibit to our organization. The Sisterhood II exhibit was put forth first in Dalvík and just recently here in Reykjavik as part of Design March. Bergþóra was able to donate over 100.000 kr. to our organization. This donation helped us in affording to provide a 4 part series of courses on financial and tax information for women of foreign origin. (A course greatly needed and highly requested!)
While in Reykjavik Bergþóra also graciously donated a print of one of her amazing pieces. Here below our Chairwoman Nichole accepts the beautiful print entitled Angela Davis “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change….I am changing the things I cannot accept.” In the background you can see some of the beautiful silk prints. Each one symbolizing empowering messages of solidarity, feminism, human rights, and equality.

Bergþóra Jónsdóttir’s Sisterhood II pays tribute to women of the world and their fight for equality. Highlighting feminists and feminist movements across boundaries and nationalities, each work strengthens the international lineage of sisterhood. Originals and poster prints are available for sale, with part of the proceeds going to W.O.M.E.N. (Women of Multicultural Ethnicity Network in Iceland). The show has been made possible with a generous grant from The Dalvik Cultural fund.
We cannot express enough our gratitude to Bergþóra or anyone else who reaches out and supports our volunteer efforts. For more information about Bergþóra and more of her amazing designs check out her website here.
