Emergency meeting on the grave situation of refugees being deprived of all services in Iceland – Christina Milcher

Along with 22 other non-profit organisations, W.O.M.E.N. asked the minister for an emergency meeting yesterday on the grave situation of refugees being deprived of all services in Iceland. A historically large group of NGOs came together. Christina Milcher, vice-chair, spoke on behalf of W.O.M.E.N.:
“As women of foreign origin living in the gender paradise of Iceland, we know that some women are more equal than others. By suppressing all services to victims of human trafficking, you leave them with 3 choices: to live on the streets in Iceland and be exposed to more violence and abuse, go back to their trafficker or go back home and be punished. Your actions are worsening the situation of women of foreign origin in Iceland. Our question is: are we all next? We demand that you take into consideration gender issues in asylum decisions and that you restore services to asylum seekers immediately.”
