The term “brainwaste” has been used to describe the waste, or undervaluation, of the expertise and knowledge that immigrants bring to a new country.
In this seminar, speakers will discuss this issue from the point of view of the University of Iceland and how the University could constructively approach the issue.
Anna Katarzyna Wozniczka will speak about the struggle immigrant women face in getting their education from abroad recognized and she will outline a few of the W.O.M.E.N. in Iceland projects that support immigrant women´s educational goals and job-market involvement.
Brynja Elísabeth Halldórsdóttir will discuss the experiences of educated immigrant women in Iceland and talk about the international education program within the Faculty of Education in the University of Iceland.
Rector Jón Atli Benediktsson will then discuss the challenges the University is facing in this field and what solutions the University might possibly aim for.
Professor Ólafur Páll Jónsson will chair the seminar.
Following the three talks (two of which will be in Icelandic, and one in English) there will be time for discussion and questions, followed by coffee and refreshments.
